‘Paper Wings’ performed by Gracie Ewert

With so much talent here at Southern Oregon University we want to continue this coverage on recitals here on campus.
Mrs. Ewert has been preparing for this big performance since the Summer of 2018. After interviewing her she had stated, “I like to have a lot of time to choose repertoire that I enjoy, connect with, and feel is something that is worth presenting”.
The performance was on May 4th this past month. Having sung a variety of things with no particular theme, all the songs blended well together. Mrs. Ewert sang a few Mozart arias, 3/8 songs in a set by French composer Fauré; where she sang about the isolation from the outside world when we are in love. The last was a chamber work by Nico Muhly. Her pianist Jodi French was, “an integral part of this piece an was a highlight to sing for me”.
Receiving a positive response response she said, “Giving a body of work like this to an audience is really trusting the audience to hold your heart and soul for you as you share what’s truly at the bottom of it,”.
Mrs. Ewert would like to give a special thanks to her voice teacher Dr. Paul French and her collaborate pianist Jodi French, as well as Logan Tiedt for designing her lights and projections.
This upcoming Summer of 2019 she is exciting to work with Portland Opera Summer Workshop in the opera Rusalka. If you would like to know more about Mrs. Ewert and keep up with her projects for the next season follow her on Instagram @graciewert
