ONLINE VS. REALITY

As gaining a higher education continues to become more important it’s essential to figure out how you can create your own success! The traditional way of attending classes is great and continues to empower students to move forward and seek knowledge, with technology becoming an increasingly prominent tool in our lives for communication and business, online classes can offer you a new experience. We all learn in different ways and being a college student usually equates to having a hectic schedule. Try making your opportunity a reality!

PROS:

  • Convenience: Freeing up some time in your schedule, you decide how your day goes not class times.
  • Independence/ Self discovery: Online classes give you the freedom to learn at your own pace with your own style! Not every student learns the same way, so online classes let’s you figure out and explore your best learning style!
  • No Textbook: With college textbook prices continuing to increase, a great benefit of an online class is no hassle of acquiring a book for the new term.

CONS:

  • Easy to procrastinate: Having freedom can be great! But with no scheduled meetings times it’s easy to get side tracked from your work.
  • Difficult to connect with classmates: Because everyone is taking the class online, not every student will be close to campus. Some may be next door to you, and some others might be in another state. This makes it difficult when finding “study buddies” or people to work on assignments with.
  • Usually you have to learn material and apply it by yourself.

What You Can Take at SOU!

  • Strategic Social Media: A very useful class in furthering your marketing skills and social media abilities. This class pushes you to dive deep into thinking about online presence and how you can effectively use the internet to gain a following or sell products to consumers.
  • Interpersonal Communication: Although taking a class titled “interpersonal communication” seems like a weird class to take online, it’s super interesting and you learn in so many different ways. By reading both the textbook and completing the assignments, you learn how interpersonal communication affects all aspects of your life, even your digital one!
  • So many more!

Conclusion: Bottom line, you won’t know if you like online classes or if they work for you unless you try them out. Try out an online class next quarter and see if you’re ready to take that digital leap!
